fleur de tapis 2014

fleur de tapis 2014 by Jason Kravitz

Posted on 2014-08-21

This is a photo of the fleur de tapis (flower carpet) in the Grand Place of Brussels Belgium.

Every 2 years, a huge display of over a million begonias is laid out in the middle of this large town square. The display lasts only a few days and thousands of people come to see the design.

The design is based on a theme. For 2014, the theme was dedicated to 50 years of Turkish immigration to Belgium and the pattern was created to look like a Turkish rug design.

His Sunday Suit by Jason Kravitz

This distinguished gentleman was dressed up for a religious procession in Eizer this past Sunday. I don't shoot candid street portraits too often these days and was enjoying photographing some of the different people in this town.

it ceases to be prayer

Le balcon rouge by Jean Fraipont

Posted on 2013-08-09

each flower leaf and tree you see expresses its identity

2000 posts ago we created this place for friends to share photos from across the world - to get a glimpse of each others lives through our images - to improve our photography and to connect. In the 7 years since, we've been doing the same on a greater and greater scale.

For me, it's been an incredible period of expansion, growth, learning and joy.

Pelophylax lessonae

Pelophylax lessonae by Johan Dierckx

Posted on 2011-07-11

Pelophylax lessonae (NL: Poelkikker / EN: Pool frog / DE: Kleine Wasserfrosch) is a European frog. The reasons for declining populations are decreased pond habitat from human encroachment and also air pollution leading to over-nitrification of pond waters. Its specific name was chosen by the Italian herpetologist Lorenzo Camerano in order to honour his master Michele Lessona.

The fire was 100 meters from my window I took the camera to help me fight my anxiety! Mission Accomplished

Amanita muscaria

Amanita muscaria by Johan Dierckx

Posted on 2010-10-23

The "archetype of a classical mushroom" - Amanita muscaria (Vliegenzwam (BE) / Fly agaric (EN) / Fliegenpilz (DE) / Amanite tue-mouches (FR)) - is a cosmopolitan, poisonous and psychoactive basidiomycete fungus in the Amanitaceae family. Because this is perhaps the best known mushroomspecies in the entire world, I will not provide a description today.

But have you ever wondered why there is a reference to flies in the common names of this species ? Even the specific epithet in the sc
