I like this beautiful image of Ganeha for the feel of peaceful and divine atmosphere. This is one of the collections by my daughter Shanthi. I took this photo while we visited her place in Chennai
last week. Ganesha is most popular in India and our favourite God.

Catching up with the news at this age

Catching up with the news at this age by Sathya

Posted on 2015-05-13

This photo was taken in a small rural village down south in India. When this image was taken it was election frenzy in the state.Generally literacy rates at these villages are medium to low. However, when I saw this old man, engrossed in reading the newspaper to know the election results,it amazed me for two reasons - one was the interest in reading the paper at his old age and the other one was the curiosity in him to know the election results (am sure he discharged his voting duty as a citizen)

La Cérémonie... by maximage

Posted on 2015-03-28

Selling Palm fruit

Selling Palm fruits by Devi

Borasses flabelliser or Ice apple in English . Come hot summer, you will find them seated on the roadsides, selling palm fruits. Much in demand as it quenches thirst and cools the system. Here we have a mother and daughter...yes the head of the family has gone to pluck more from the trees, which border either side of the National Highway and are found growing in villages too.

Babaji Ki Booti - Manali Stuff - It may be mentioned that in 70s and 80s, with the cultivation of marijuana that attracted the development of a hippie culture that was looked down by the
conventional tourists. However, with the rise of turmoil in the Kashmir Valley,
the tourists started returning to Manali as the landscape and immense beauty of the two places match each other.

Rosy Starling

Road Trip (January 2015) (Gujarat) by anjana

Posted on 2015-01-28

Rosy starlings are winter visitors in India and we saw flocks of them everywhere. They were either hanging out in bunches by themselves or mixing with the local Mynahs. We saw them seated on overhead electrical cables in many towns and when we stopped the car to take pictures of them perched on electrical cables, this motley bunch decided to take a dip in a roadside puddle. This shot was taken at Shahera.

Houses and streets are lit up with rows of oil lamps (Deepam) in the evening of the festival day. Rows of Agal vilakkus (oil lit lamps) are lit in every house. Karthikai is essentially a festival of lamps. The lighted lamp is considered an auspicious symbol. It is believed to ward off evil forces and usher in prosperity and joy.

Leh Prayer Flags - A prayer flag is a colorful rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. They are used to bless the surrounding countryside and for other purposes. Prayer flags are believed to have originated with Bon, which predated Buddhism in Tibet. In Bon, shamanistic Bonpo used primary-colored plain flags in healing ceremonies in Nepal. They are unknown in other branches of Buddhism.

Road Trip (January 2015) (Gujarat) by anjana

Posted on 2015-02-10

We saw plenty of migratory birds during our 17 day road trip around the coastal State of Gujarat, India. Everywhere we went there were flamingoes and seagulls and herons and cranes by the hundreds, but the locals seemed most captivated by the seagulls. We saw people stopping by at bridges and other water bodies to feed them. They seagulls would get into a feeding frenzy everytime some snack was thrown their way and then land in the water in a very orderly manner.

A closeup of Brass statue of Dancing Ganesha with intesesting lighting ...
One of the precious fine art pieces in our collection.
This statue was crafted by a well known artist at Naachiarkoil near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. It is believed that Lord Ganesha is known for removal of obstacles ...
And any new beginning is made only after seeking His blessings for success ...
I am happy to share this with our Aminus community memebers.
