The end of the day looks with beautiful light in a courtyard. "Maria" opens a window and enters the dry clothes. Already vegetable smells fill the air.

Rainbow Cabo Girao Madeira

Rainbow by grouser

Posted on 2009-03-11

Had the luck to capture this rainbow from the top of Cabo Girao in Madeira. They push this as the second highest cliff in Europe, but in fact it would seem to be about seventh or ninth. However at 580 metres high it's not to be sniffed at.

Entrudo Chocalheiro by Arco-Íris

Posted on 2018-02-15

Entrudo Chocalheiro. The Careto tradition is a pre-historical Celtic religious ritual still practised in some regions of Portugal. It takes place during Carnival and is one of the oldest traditions being practiced in Portugal today.

Caretos are masked young men dressed in suits made of yellow, red, black, blue and green fringe wool quilts, wearing brass, leather or wooden masks and rattles in their belts.

Shrove Tuesday and the prior Sunday are the days when the Caretos are most active.

A libélula é considerada um insecto mágico graças às suas asas que mudam de cor, a sua forma esbelta e a velocidade com que é capaz de voar e fugir de seus predadores.

The end. by Arco-Íris

Posted on 2018-11-18

Trago dentro do meu coração,

Lisboa, Rua Augusta.

downtown by António Pires

Posted on 2014-02-17

Lisbon downtown (a baixa) was built at the end of the 18th century, after the almost complete destruction of the city by the 1755 earthquake. Although some hurts already exist, the architectural style is thus fairly homogeneous.

The urban mesh is geometrical (the streets cross at right angles), which is a common pattern in the USA for instance. The Bairro Alto quarter follows the same pattern but the houses were of a lower class.

The Fisherman's Walk by grouser

So we continue south to Odeceixe and take a walk along the Atlantic coast there. This is still February and the tail end of the gales that brought so much rain to the UK and gave us such a rough crossing are still whipping the sea to creamy foam here.

Lisbon Peacock Portugal

Show off by grouser

Posted on 2014-05-11

We took a day trip into Lisbon. This rather unusual peacock was in the Castello De Saint Jorge where we had a rather good pasta lunch. He was hanging out and displaying by us and was much photographed by passing tourists. His missus doesn't seem too impressed though :)

Bidoeira, 25 de Agosto de 2008
So when the fight is over,
And the storm is through,
Now will you pick another?
What will you get into?

So you stand in the corner,
With those boxing gloves on you,
You’re old, scared and lonely,
Yeah we’ve all been there too… uh uh
We’ve been all there too…

Kiss me, oh kiss me,
If that can make it right.
Try me, find me,
Just throw them on me…
