That entire side of the street he's gazing at was included in a massive 'urban renewal' project, half of the old "tong laus" have already been demolished, and the rest should be gone in the next 15 months...

neon signs and saturday night fever... by hugo poon

11:00 p.m., D'Aguilar Street, Hong Kong

The upper section of D'Aguilar Street together with Lan Kwai Fong is one popular (expatriate) haunt for drinking, entertainments and night life. Though I'm not a fan of night life of this sort, I have always been drawn by its atmosphere.:-)

old fashioned tailor

working late... by hugo poon

An old fashioned tailor that works seven days and nights a week...
This was where and how my "street photography" began: on one lovely Sunday night, 2005, I and my family were having a little stroll after dinner; the scene of a tailor who's nothing symbolic yet so attentive to his work caught my eyes and struck my soul - "wasn't it supposed to be the time to take a rest but why on earth was he still working?!!!"

Veg & Meat stalls next to each other on Chun Yeung Street, North Point, Hong Kong. Reminds me of the old British high street before the supermarkets forced them out of business.

A high key b&w photo of the Star Ferry and the International Commerce Centre which is the tallest building in Hong Kong.

I had a look at the high res version of this photo and I can see from the name on the bow that this particular ferry is the "Twinkling Star"

To some, this is one last remaining "old streets"; to others, it's where they just come for foods, traditional or trendy;
To some, it's a fascinating mix of cultures; to others it's the invasion of the old living by some pretentious bourgeois...
To me, it's a street I have to pass by at least once a week but my photographing of it never seems to be finished.:-)

When I walked around this old temple, what probably impressed me most is the repetition of this single word... "善"
