My backyard abuts a stream-side park so I get a lot of wildlife visitors coming into my yard to feed on the flower plants. This is the most unusual visitor I have had to date. It is a Piebald white tail buck deer. The white parches are the result of a genetic mutation that results from the lack of the usual pigment producing cells in those areas. It is a rare mutation and I have only seen this deer one time. It was quite a thrill to see him even though he was wreaking havoc on my flower plants!
Built between 1917 and 1921, the Lingotto was the first car factory in Italy. Designed by Giacomo Mattè Trucco, it was conceived according to the principles of Taylorism to optimize production. Inaugurated in 1923 in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III, it became the symbol of the Turin automotive industry. 5 floors with a surface area of 150,000 square meters. A test track on the roof, 1.5 km long. An example of rationalist industrial architecture. A symbol of Turin's industrial history and Fiat's innovation. Closed in 1982, it was transformed into a multifunctional complex.
It's only 50m from our home. I saw the white petals lying on the street and took a photo. Then I took another one (in double exposure) of the blossoming cherry tree. A little postproduction and voilà. My inspiration here are japanese prints.
The Fort of Fenestrelle, known as "The Great Piedmontese Wall", has a total surface area of 1,350,000 m² and stretches for over 3 kilometers along a difference in height of about 635 meters. The longest of its internal stairs is called the "covered staircase", consisting of about 4,000 steps, 2.10 meters wide and 2.35 meters high, with walls and a vaulted arch 2 meters thick. This staircase connects the entire fortress from the valleys to the top. Originally designed for mules, it has steps that are very uncomfortable for people but allowed the soldiers stationed in the forts to receive ammunition and food. The rations, prepared in the kitchen down the valley, consisted of 7 ounces of black bread in a mess tin with broth made from scraps, red beets and leftover meat.
We were walking on the sea ice. The landscape was beautiful, but the light was way too bright for photographing against direct sunlight even when the sun was starting to set. Luckily there was a small island with trees and I got this shot when the sun went behind it. It almost looks like the forest is on fire and there's smoke on the sky.
Going through a bookstore at Geneva railway station. I first took a picture of a man displayed on the cover of a book, I then looked for the matching 2nd picture : a turning book display some 2 meters away. I was working on the head made of books with leonardo.ai and wanted to try it with my trusty Nikon Z30.
Soccer restarted last week with Steve’s elder grandson playing in a friendly game for his Surf Academy team. He is quite pleased with himself as he scored his first header of his soccer career. After the match, he self-assessed himself as the best player on his team. One thing is for sure, the boy does not lack confidence.

It was during our lunch. We were sitting close to the the pool. As I preferred not to have recognizable faces on my photo, I waited a while till I got the best moment. Anyway, I don't really understand why you stay in a pool when there's such a beach below. But anyway, it's a nice place called Single Fin and the food is excellent.
The life cycle of the Western Trillium is quite unique. A single plant can take up to 8 years before it produces a flower and from there the flowers appear every April to May. When the flowers appear they are white and as it ages it turns pink. The plant has a life span of 20 years. The plants are recognizable by their long thin stalks with 3 tear shaped green leaves. They mostly grow alone but here is a cluster of them with seven smaller plants without flowers. This photo was taken in an old growth forest of red cedar trees in an ecological reserve. Although the reserve is not intended for outdoor recreation, it is open for hiking and photography. As a side note, last year I photographed one of the largest diameter cedar tree I have seen in the reserve. When I recently went to visit the tree, sadly it had toppled over probably from the winter wind storms. Such is the nature of the natural world. The tree will now contribute in providing nutrients to the soil as it slowly decays.
The Sacra di San Michele, or more precisely the San Michele della Chiusa Abbey, is an architectural complex perched atop Mount Pirchiriano, at the entrance to the Val di Susa in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. Situated on an imposing 26-meter pedestal at an altitude of 960 meters above sea level, it overlooks the boundary between the Cozie Alps and the Po Valley. The origins of the Sacra date back to the 10th century when a group of Benedictine monks settled there for a life of eremitic devotion. The complex showcases a blend of architectural styles, ranging from Romanesque to Gothic, reflecting different phases of construction and expansion. Its church facade features a Romanesque portal with sculpted lunettes, while the interior boasts precious frescoes and sculpturesThe Sacra di San Michele has inspired the historical novel “The Name of the Rose” by Umberto Eco. The novel was later loosely adapted into a film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, starring Sean Connery.
This is a place where birds are fed during the winter. There are also small rodents that eat seeds dropped by birds.
I had a dream about chasing castles and later that day my GPS routed me the wrong way right past this little compound that looks a lot like a castle in the middle of Brussels by Saint Lambert church.
How to deal with jet lag?
All the journals and literature will tell you varying do's and don'ts of flying.
No alcohol / more water / no coffee / tablets / sleep patterns blah blah.
I give you my method.
Fly and enjoy. Fuel as you see fit. Just take a tripod.
A tripod you ask? How does that combat jet lag? Well, when you wake at an ungodly hour pull the curtains wide and make the most of the hour and light that you may rarely see and with tripod, capture the dawn lights and scenery. Move quickly. The light doesn't stand still. The tripod assists with camera steadiness and crisp, sharp images that you may not achieve with just hand-held.
How does that deal with the jet lag or headaches, you ask?
I promise, that whilst you work away, feasting on the dawn light, street lighting and motion trails, you will forget how tired you may be or that your head hurt earlier. Once daylight delivers the day and you review all the images you shot, the feel good factor will hang around.
While visiting the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, Illinois earlier this month, I noticed quite a few peacocks that were strolling around the grounds of the zoo, free to roam where they wanted. They didn't extend their feathers upright, but rather just let them drag behind them. I caught this shot of the peacock's plumage from a low point of view as it laid on the ground, and I was intrigued by how metallic it looked in the sunlight.

Prepare to hibernate
After enjoying the garden in spring, the tree frog settled in the veranda to undoubtedly spend the winter. It must hibernate in one of the many plants sheltered from the cold.

This was my last day in Morocco. It was also my birthday and I spent the afternoon watching the sea and the sky with a friend. This photo is one of a series, waiting for the sunset. The pole, strings and rags seemed to be dancing in the evening light. It felt like wonderland .
It's called Ridge Walk, at Ubud Bali. It is very easy and not too long, It was very hot (december) but not too steep. I tried to express my feelings about the wild vegetation which was between me and the landscape. Turning around gave me some depth in the picture. Looking at the picture I remember Rudolf Steiner's remark on the the color "green", saying that it is not a color but mere chlorphyll (lol). I must admit that there is still something about it when you are in such a luxurious vegetation.

On a stormy day, the wind carried away the thoughts...
It's by chance. Sitting in a warung (a restaurant), I saw this swing coming into the picture and pulled the trigger. The straw construction in the foreground is heart shaped in order to permit selfies, as in many other places in Bali in order to satisfy the nnarcissic needs of the tourists .
Miss you mom
Superpostion of two posters I saw in the streets of Geneva. Nothing else. Just double exposure.
We were quite shocked to see how the turtles at the resort aquarium were being kept - until the keeper explained that it was bath day; the turtles are having a special cleansing bath, before being health-checked and returned to their (much larger sized) pool.
This small body of water is only 1 inch deep but is sometimes filled with dozens of tadpoles. As summer arrives, the water evaporates and the tadpoles are gone until next year.

Ancient pyramids are important and stimulating to the imagination gateways in so many ways. These monumental structures served as more than just tombs; they were gateways to eternity - magical machines designed to ensure a prosperous afterlife for their occupants. There is also a theory, that the relative positions of the three main pyramids mirror the layout of the three stars in Orion's Belt as they appeared around 10,000 BC. Therefore they even can be a high-tech gateway to the distant stars...
For us, they are a remarkable gateway to ancient lifestyle, believings, and history.

The forest conceals elves, orcs, and masche within its mist... The Masche are creatures from Piedmontese folklore, resembling witches or malevolent spirits. Described as old and ugly women with claws and wings, the Masche are said to inhabit the mountainous areas of Piedmont. It is said that they possess magical powers and can transform into animals or objects to hide or deceive people. Legends of the Masche are deeply rooted in the popular culture of Piedmont and have contributed to creating an atmosphere of mystery and fear around the mountainous regions of the area.
It's over 15 degrees below zero and the water is running in the rapids. This creates fog, which can be seen very clearly when photographed against the backlight.
It is on rainy days that the fairies dance with the trees...
